How we evaluate

DogBedHQ methodology: label every claim, never invent a ranking

The core idea is simple: dog bed brands publish a lot of adjectives and very few measurements. This methodology exists so you can tell the difference.

The five source types

Every fact on a DogBedHQ page carries one of these labels.

Source typeWhat it means here
Brand claimWhat the manufacturer says on its own page. True unless contradicted, but not independent evidence.
SpecificationA measurable value (thickness, size, materials) published by the brand or retailer. Verified only against the brand's own page for verified reviews.
Editorial observationA named third-party writer's direct observation (e.g. WIRED, Forbes Vetted, a Chewy editor). Cited with the outlet, never as our own testing.
Consumer feedbackPatterns from buyer reviews — used sparingly and only for durability patterns, never as proof.
Our testingDogBedHQ hands-on testing. Currently: none. This is stated on every review.

The five rules

We do not invent scores or rankings

A real 1-to-10 ranking needs foam density, firmness, and long-term test data. The brands we cover do not publish these, so we compare verifiable fields instead of ordering products.

We label the source of every claim

Pros, cons, and specs trace to a brand page, retailer listing, or named editorial observation. A brand claim is never presented as independent testing.

Not disclosed is never estimated

If a value is not published, we write 'Not disclosed' — we do not guess or fill from a different product.

We mark verification status

Verified means specs were re-checked against the brand's own product page. Provisional means the bed is real and in stock, but some specs come from a retailer listing.

We separate the label from the evidence

'Orthopedic,' 'clinically proven,' and 'vet recommended' are marketing words unless a study or named endorsement is linked. We compare construction, not adjectives.

What we have not done

DogBedHQ has not hands-on tested any of the beds in this group. We have not commissioned lab tests, and we do not publish consumer-satisfaction scores. Where editorial observations exist (WIRED, Forbes Vetted, a Chewy editor), we cite them by name and outlet. This is stated on every individual review page.
